Scenes are the building blocks of almost every well-crafted piece of fiction. But how do you know if you've created a scene that's working? How can you tell if your scene is adding something the story needs or wants? How do you structure a scene in way that carries the reader along? This workshop will look at the architecture of scenes, what's essential, and how a scene fits into the overall structure of a larger story or novel. Come ready to write, learn, discuss and play. $40 includes both sessions. Register online.

Bare Bones Writing with Diane Sherman

Thursday, December 1, 8, & 15 // 6 PM - 8 PM

Bared Bones Writing is when we come together in sacred space, to tell the stories held in our flesh and bones, and to listen to each other with open hearts, healing happens. Bare Bones Writing gives you a safe and sacred way to play with words, and the modality of writing. It is a place to begin to trust your voice and to silence the inner critic. We write from prompts, often jumping off a line from a poem and we write fast and furiously, keeping the pen moving at all times to sprint past the inner critic. Then we read aloud to one another. Each of us thinking, “Oh, no, I can’t read THAT to anyone.” Yet we do. We push through the fear and we are seen and heard by the group, who then offers a word or a phrase back to the writer. Perfect for the explorer, seeker, novice or seasoned writer. $75 includes all three sessions. Register online.
